Monkey Mind Robots

(link to ieeespectrum)

Robotics news! A monkey has been controlling an ADVANCED robot arm using NOTHING BUT ITS MIND!! This is a remarkable demonstration of brain-machine interface (BMI) technology and the possibilities are endless, especially for monkeys using robots to fling feces!! You may watch a short video of the adventure:

Ulysses can be seen

(link to ulyssesseen.com)

Some news from the world of literature has developed as James Joyce's classic work of literature Ulysses has been adapted to a graphic novel! This is great news, and it is also available on the iPad! I have read only the beginning, and it seems to be a most enlightening work.

Emwow sucks

Words cannot do justice to this commercial for Eminem's new video Recovery feature Vince the Shamwow guy. Vince puts his questionable marketing skills on display as an onslaught of purile puns and attempts at humour ensue. We are almost ashamed to feature this, but cannot deny that it has infinite qualities. See for yourself!

Bregman for boredom

(link to aolnews)

Now for a heartwarming tale of the human spirit. Peter Bregman, CEO of Bregman Partners Inc, had an interesting experience with his iPad. He ended up returning it because it was too good; in his own words "It's too easy. Too accessible. For the most part, it does everything I could want. Which, as it turns out, is a problem." Bregman got addicted to his iPad; using it to write emails and articles, check the news and weather, and watching episodes of Weeds. It seems that he was always stimulated and had something exciting to do, however, he missed the feeling of boredom that he needed to feel whole. "Being bored is a precious thing, a state of mind we should pursue, my best ideas come to me when I am unproductive. To lose those moments, to replace them with tasks and efficiency, is a mistake." Instead of consuming his time with iPad adventures, he now spends more quality time with his daughter.

Griffin kidnapped

(link to tv.com)

Forget Matthew Fox, Scott Wolf, Neve Campbell, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Lacey Chabert. The real star of Party of Five was none other than Jeremy London AKA Griffin AKA Grif AKA the Grifster! A shocking incident has come to light involving everyone's favourite Party of Five star! It seems that Jeremy was kidnapped by Brandon Adams and forced - at gunpoint - to consume miscellaneous drugs. This is very disturbing news, however there seems to be some doubt as to whether Jeremy was complicit in this arrangement, as some have theorised that he may have faked/staged the kidnapping! As for Brandon Adams, his bail was set at $500,000 but he maintains his innocence.

Video Simulacrum

(link to Geekologie)

Patrick Liddell has shown us what results when a video is uploaded and downloaded 1000 times! The equivalent of photocopying an image until the original is rendered unrecognisable. A copy of a copy with a lesser resemblence to the original is known as a simulacrum. You may remark upon the drastic changes that occur in later versions of the copying process, with the audio and video highly altered. Is this a metaphor for the plight of humanity? You be the judge

Super Mario Violin

(link to BuzzFeed)

Super Mario Brothers was and still is an amazing video game series, with some of the best and most memorable music ever on a video game. Watch as the very talented and impressive Teppei Okada plays the Super Mario theme on violin, complete with chimes and effects! The game is being played on a big screen as Teppei plays along, but it's unclear whether the theme in this particular part of the game has been rehearsed or it's being improvised live. What do you think?

Episode 0018

Episode 18 is here and it's a triple threat! Phillip Moreso and Harvey Plankers are accompanied on this very special episode by regular of sorts Infinite Bill! We touch upon the brewing rivalry between Harvey and Bill, which they both fervently deny. Our Bob for this episode is the amazing Bob Curran; alternative folklorist and monster researcher extraordinaire. We discuss the HBO series True Blood, and its somewhat creepy connection to Snoop Dogg. Frequencies abound as we bring you information on 2010 FIFA World Cup, with a special expose on the vuvuzela horn scandal! Concerts for dogs and cats, plus very cool music by sound pioneer Diego Stucco!

For more information on our Bob for this week - the esteemed Dr Bob Curran - we may direct you to the terrific We Are All Werewolves! episode of the very disinformative Right Where You Are Sitting Now podcast: http://www.disinfo.com/2010/04/we-are-all-werewolves-sitting-now-podcast-with-dr-bob-curran/

The vuvuzela scandal

(link to Wired)

We are happy to discuss the happenings of the World Cup and the miraculous magical instrument known as the vuvuzela! Although the vuvuzela sounds a bit like a buzzing nest of wasps, people continue to play it and bask in the amazing healing planetary frequencies. Using or listening to the instrument will result in many positive effects of personal wellbeing and harmony, and will also benefit the harmony between planets and the moon. However, many people remain hostile to the vuvuzela, and the French company Audioanamix has developed a program that can mute the sound. By excluding those wonderful frequencies that the vuvuzela emits, the aptly named Vuvuzela Remover can do what the name suggests. We cannot stress enough that every living soul will benefit from vuvuzela frequencies, but if you must, you can remove the frequencies of around 230 KHz.

Snoopy and Sookie

(link to E Online)

Fans of the current hit TV series True Blood will realise that it is a great show dealing with vampire segregation in the town of Bon Temps, Louisiana! The central character is Sookie Stackhouse, played by Anna Paquin. Well vampires may be a common feature of Bon Temp, but they've never seen anything like the Doggizzle!! Yes that's right, Snoop Dogg comes rolling into town in this incredible new music video! Proclaiming his desire for Sookie, a truly-stoned Snoop appears decked out in all the stylish gear we have come to expect, however he is also brandishing a diamond-encrusted knuckle duster with Sookie's name on it! Prepare to have your mind blown when one of Snoop's girls brings out a packet of Tru Nutz! Classic Snoop! We understand that Snoop has been denied a cameo role in the series, surely this is not because Vampire Bill may feel a little threatened by the Dogg?

'High Frequency' for dogs

(link to BBC News)

Lou Reed and his artist wife Laurie Anderson have pulled off one of the most amazing inter-species concerts ever. As part of the Vivid Live Festival which Lou curated, the couple performed a special 'high-frequency' concert for dogs, 'barely audible to their owners'. The project was inspired by their compositions at home for their own Rat Terrier, Lollabelle. These compositions were met with some interest by Lollabelle, and Lou and Laurie decided to stage a concert featuring these 'high frequencies'. We have not heard how the concert was received, so any reviews from attendees would be appreciated.

Something for Cats

(link to AOL News)
The whipping great pioneering band Devo has invited 20 lucky feline animals to a listening party for their new album to prove that there truly is, as the album title claims, Something for Everybody; even cats! The cats play around as the album is played to them for nine straight hours. You can watch an account of how the listening party developed on UStream here. It actually looks like the cats are having fun, and it's a really good album too.

Stocco does Bassoforte

(link to Wired)

Genius musical innovator and sound composer/designer Diego Stocco is best-known for his wonderful video clips, which features him expertly bringing sound and music out of many unlikely sources. It is very inspiring to see him in action, and his passion for creating these unique sounds is nothing short of glorious! The Underwire department of Wired has featured Diego and many great projects including a great new instrument he has developed called the Experibass; here we can see a video of Diego making the instrument and then playing a rocking version of Personal Jesus on it. This is begging for a mash-up!!

One of my favourite videos is Music from a Tree, in which Diego utilises recording technology to make music from many aspects of a tree. Simply amazing and is reminiscent of Damanhur's Music of the Plants. Diego likes to create music and sounds out of the brilliant resource all around us; nature! As his website says 'Diego loves discovering hidden sounds from organic sources, objects and materials, his unorthodox musical curiosity allows him to produce music with sounds never heard before.' Truly wonderful stuff, and I highly encourage you all to investigate his YouTube channel, website, and of course, the Underwire feature.
