Episode 0011

Episode 0011 has dropped and we have a very special guest: Robert Pattinson! No he is not the weirdo from the Twilight series, but he is in fact Phillip's nephew! We enjoy a chat with Rob and discuss some news stories of the recent past. This episode is sponsored by the estate of the great Bob Denver also known as Gilligan! We discuss: banned KFC commercial, Sarah Palin joins Fox News, Roxxxy the sex robot and Roomba vacuums. As always, Phillip and Harvey are proud to deliver another fun-filled show. If you have any comments, suggestions or feedback, they would love to receive such information via facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Gmail, or any number of other useful 'net apps.

KFC ad banned for racism

(link to Adland)
KFC in Australia has produced the "cricket survival guide" series of TV ads. The ads depict various cricket-and-chicken themed activities and promote the idea that KFC can be used to enhance one's experience of cricket. In one such ad, a white Australian man is surrounded by black West Indian supporters. He offers some advice about this: "Need a tip when you're stuck in an awkward situation?" He then proceeds to offer the black supporters a bucket of KFC's delicious Crowd Pleaser chicken! This satisfies them and eases the potentially uneasy situation. As you can imagine, the ad was deemed racist and banned from circulation. However, the complaints are largely that the ad depicts African-Americans in the stereotype of fried-chicken lovers, but the black supporters are not African-American but West Indian. It is indeed awkward to be the only Australian fan in the seating area for West Indies fans, perhaps KFC is a good icebreaker! Is this ad racist? You be the judge! Adland article contains video.

Palin on Fox

(link to AlterNet)

Sarah Palin has recently been signed to Fox News as a news analyst. She will surely fit in well with Fox and will have a good platform to discuss death panels and other issues. AlterNet has a good article outlining the many cases of Palin making false claims and spreading disinformation. Palin also has previous experience of working as a reporter, when she was a sports reporter for KTUU in Alaska. Watch a clip of Sarah Heath, as she was then known: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/26461777#26461777.

Fox news has on occasion featured the party animal Andrew WK as special guest weatherman. He provides humorous weather anecdotes and unusual goofiness much to the delight of the reporters, enjoy this little clip:

XXX True Companion

Roxxy is the world's first sex robot; the new generation of love dolls complete with artificial intelligence, multiple customisable personalities, and even opinions about 911. Douglas Hines has created the True Companion to be totally lifelike, this means she has a full C cup and is ready for action! Hines claims that "She can't vacuum, she can't cook but she can do almost anything else if you know what I mean." I'm not sure I do know what he means!

Sketchy Santas

Having a photo with Santa Claus can be a great memory for a little kid, but not always. Check out this photo blog of uncomfortable, nervous and filthy santas in situations that may raise a few eyebrows. Some of these children may have been traumatised by their experience. Some of these guys may be criminals or degenerates.

Easy Tiger

(link to Mahalo)
Taiwan's Apple Daily has produced various CGI re-enactments of what may have taken place between Tiger Woods and several females - alleged mistresses or lovers! At the time, the list of women was nine, but it has since risen to even more. This video uses CGI graphics to illustrate scenes that look like they could be in a really good computer game! Anyone who plays The Sims will see the similarity between this video and the popular life simulator. Many funny things are featured in this video, perhaps the funniest being the feet-in-the-shower scene complete with saxophone music! Is this an accurate depiction of what transpired? You be the judge!

BeeBee890

BeeBee890 is an avid user of YouTube. He posts very frequently and is a master of the can-crush video. In these videos, he crushes a can and dedicates it to one of his loving fans. I encourage you to have a look at his channel and you'll find plenty of great can-crush videos and more! He also loves McDonald's and has made a very interesting video in which he sings a song about his love for McDonald's whilst announcing that he doesn't like the salads. He then makes some comments about vanilla lattes and iced mochas.

Swan Fungus???

(link to WFMU)
A mysterious CD has been found and reported by the one and only Swan Fungus! The blogger, musician and social identity came across this spooky CD in a floppy-disk case during a personal trek at Joshua Tree. It is unknown who created the CD and for what purpose, but one thing is for sure: you can download the full album (including Wound Midnight and Noah's Dork) from the blog post at WFMU. There are also several postings and links that may provide clues as to the identity of the CD! Perhaps a hoax, alien artifact, lost treasure, or good music - you be the judge!

The Dylan-Rogers divide

(link to Dangerous Minds)
A woman has stabbed her partner after an argument about whether to play Kenny Rogers or Bob Dylan music. It is unclear who her preference was, but she is now in jail for six years.

Chicken Love

(link to BoingBoing)
Instead of wearing a Santa suit, this special street musician puts on a chicken suit and plays 'What is Love?' on melodica live at Melbourne's own Flinders Street train station! A very enjoyable and heartwearming rendition of this classic song.
